Founder Jason Whittington Page, will share how the South East Salon’s focus on shared histories, creative economies, and grassroots organizing is being leveraged to build meaningful resistance to fascism—locally and globally.

Jean-Claude, founded of cultural advocacy firm, Lionbeat will join Jason, exploring his practice of encouraging peers to join their ‘convokative’ approach, where productions, outputs, are not solely intended to gather people, but to expressly joining those ones and ones’ voices to a development-focused conversation, that champions local infrastructure and architecture for joy, through bass-culture (an SE London speciality) music and Arts.

Session Description

How do we empower ourselves locally and stay connected globally?

Become a global access point in your community.

South East London mirrors other working-class, post-industrial communities around the world - residents feel the urgent need to stay grounded in community, despite the isolating pull of digital life. The South East Salon—part community hub, part think tank—is both a local and global access point, connecting people in South East London with allies and innovators across borders.

Through sharing best practices and collective memory, Salon attendees exchange methods of organizing, storytelling, and creative resistance that are already working in their respective communities. The sessions highlight the importance of reclaiming space—physical, cultural, and political—as a core strategy in resisting fascist ideologies and building joyful solidarity.

The Salon’s discussions generate both strategic insights, and a reaffirmation of why gatherings like this matter. The Salon draws inspiration from historical models of collective brilliance—from Black intellectual salons in the U.S. to 18th-century Parisian gatherings—reminding us that action begins with assembly. Joy reigns as fuel for resistance: song circles, dance, craft, and storytelling were seen as acts of cultural preservation and defiance. The Salon isn’t just about meetings—it’s about convoking. The calling to action is what binds us, especially when issued by people we know and trust.

In this session, founder Jason Whittington Page, will share how the South East Salon’s focus on shared histories, creative economies, and grassroots organizing is being leveraged to build meaningful resistance. Session participants will join in exploring the role of strategy and solidarity in the fight against fascism—locally and globally.

Founder of Lionbeat & Executive Producer of BASSIStv, Jean-Claude Lionbeat is a cultural strategist, producer, and rhythmic ethics architect whose work amplifi es Bass Culture as a living, breathing infrastructure, signified by bass-heavy music and multicultural, multigenerational audiences.

Founder of Lionbeat, a cultural advocacy and agency platform, and Executive Producer of BASSIStv, a street-level streaming media channel, Jean-Claude designs formats that place local joy and sonic upfullness at the heart of any urban context, celebrating artists within their locales.

Operating from a philosophy of “local is logical”, Jean-Claude’s practice spans audiovisual innovation, grassroots economy, and institutional influence. His project ‘Expect Cycles,’ supported by the Foundation for Integrated Transport, exemplifies this approach—deploying high-spec eCargo bikes (BASSISbikes) to power roving sound systems and film units that connect people, place, provoking solidarity through culture.

Lionbeat tells stories via BASSIStv and two flagship anthology titles: ‘Expect Cycles’ & ‘Street Cypher.’ The latter embodies the battle-hardened beauty of Hip Hop’s elemental expressions—MCing, turntablism, dance, graffi ti, and knowledge—reimagined through mobile, decarbonised, public performance. Each output is a document of cultural memory and strategic invention, designed to travel across boroughs and borders, remixing by adding double dutch, roller skates and other often competitive cultural modes.

Jean-Claude holds an Honorary Knowledge Fellowship at Goldsmiths, University of London, and received a Creative Impact Club Award for his contributions to cultural infrastructure. He is also part of the Inspiration Network, founded by Wozzy Brewster OBE and Beverley Glean MBE, and works closely with partners from local authorities to global cultural movements. As a convoker of people and builder of platforms, Jean-Claude invites others to join in not as audiences, but as participants: When Bass Culture abounds, routes to skills, training and employment accompany joyful moments.
