Carnival Was Always a Protest

Carnival Was Always a Protest

The Couch2Carnival Journey to Joy and Liberation

Simone Sobers and Ahjané Billingsley, PhD
Couch 2 Carnival, Miami, Florida, USA

Join Couch2Carnival for a dynamic Caribbean dance workout combined with insights on Carnival’s history and the importance of wellness. Experience fitness, celebration, and connection in one empowering session.

Session Description

Join us for a vibrant, joy-filled session that reclaims movement as power and Carnival as a space of cultural memory and wellness. Hosted by Couch2Carnival, this experience blends Caribbean dance, history, and healing to energize the body and uplift the spirit. Participants will enjoy a 40-minute Caribbean music dance workout, designed to connect you with rhythm, release, and joy.

We’ll also explore the roots of Carnival as an act of protest — a tradition born out of resistance and survival — and share the inspiration behind Couch2Carnival, a wellness and fitness program designed to help women prepare for “the road” by nurturing their bodies, confidence, and creativity. This program supports not just fitness, but a deeper connection to joy, community, and cultural pride.

Come dance with us. Come celebrate our ancestors. Come honor your body and your brilliance. This session is an invitation to move, sweat, and shine — together — in the spirit of joy, wellness, and community power.
